MUMBAI: Priyanka Chopra starrer ‘Zanjeer 2.0’, a remake of the original Bollywood film starring Amitabh Bachchan and Pran, has run into choppy waters yet again. Fierce competition is to be posed to it by the film’s hero Ram Charan Teja’s Telugu release.

Right from inception, the ‘Zanjeer’ remake has been in the news for the scuffle between its producers. Now, the film seems to have run into trouble arising from other Bollywood and Telugu releases.

A source has revealed that Ram Charan Teja’s upcoming Telugu release, ‘Yevadu’ has been moved from its initial release date of 21 August closer to the release of ‘Zanjeer’.

The source categorically said: “It will be too much for Ram to have two of his films literally arriving back to back. And more than just the Hindi version, Ram also has to worry about Zanjeer’s Telugu version- ‘Thoofan’. It will be a tall task for distributors and exhibitors to bring two of Ram’s films one after the other.”

However, ‘Zanjeer 2.0’s director Apurva Lakhia seems not to be too concerned by the developments. “I can only talk about my film. This week, as many as 12 films released all over India. It’s impossible for any film to get a single release unless it features the big four or five actors. ‘Zanjeer’ is definitely arriving on September 6.”

Bollywood too seems to be posing stiff competition to ‘Zanjeer 2.0’, with Maneesh Sharma’s ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’ slotted for a 6 September release.

The source added, “Though that by itself isn’t a threat since ‘Zanjeer’ is a much bigger film than the Maneesh Sharma-directed movie, it cannot be ignored either. Some rethinking may be required here.”

We might have to wait and watch to see whether ‘Zanjeer 2.0’ will be able to keep its date with a first week of September release.
