MUMBAI: Amitabh Bachchan released lyricist Sameer’s biography on 28 October in Mumbai. The day also happens to be Sameer’s father, lyricist late Anjaan’s 75th birth anniversary. This year is also very significant for Sameer as he complets 25 years as lyrics writer and has already crossed 500 films as lyricist.
The biography is titled Sameer – A Way With Words and is authored by Derek Bose. A three-hour musical programme showcasing Sameer’s repertoire in various genres of film music was presented on the occasion. Playback artistes and Sa Re Ga Ma winners, such as Bela Shende and Abhijeet Ghoshal rendered songs on stage.
A double CD pack of hit songs portraying the versatility and lyrical range of Sameer’s work was also released on the occasion. Over the past 25 years, Sameer has penned the lyrics of record 500-plus films, besides songs for scores of non-film albums. The only lyricist ahead of Sameer is the late Anand Bakshi, who wrote for 622 films during his tenure of 45 years.
