UTV expects Don to cross $9 mn in overseas

MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures, the overseas distributors of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Don expects the overseas theatrical box office figures to cross the $7 million mark. In addition to this, UTV expects the ancillary rights and DVD release to gross another $1.5 million, taking the cumulative overseas figures of the film past the $9 million mark.

This will firmly place Don amongst the ‘top three overseas blockbusters’ of all time as far as Hindi cinema is concerned.

According to UTV Motion Pictures, Don had the highest ever opening weekend ever for a Diwali release in the UK, U.A.E. and Australia.

As is already reported by Businessofcinema.com, in the UK Don grossed GBP 5,37,000 (a little more than $1 million) in the opening five days along with the preview; while in the US, the film grossed $1.1 million in the opening five days and ranking amongst ‘top 3’ openings for an Indian film in North America.

Despite the film opening during Ramzan and Eid, it grossed AED 2 million ($540,000) in U.A.E and stands as the second highest opening. In Australia, the weekend collections were AUD 98,000 ($75,000), again the highest opening weekend.

UTV CEO Ronnie Screwvala says, “We are incredibly excited about the huge success of Don. Our release plan of more than 345 screens overseas backed by aggressive and targeted marketing with spends exceeding $1.75 million, has helped a great product achieve its full potential. We are sure of achieving our goal.”
