The Anil Ambani-owned Adlabs is planning to set up three film studios at Mumbai’s Goregaon Film City. The studios are planned to be along the lines of the ones in Hollywood with shooting floors, editing and processing facilities. Currently Adlabs is involved in multiplexes and runs editing and film processing studios, and is run by Manmohan Shetty, along with Anil Ambani’s point man Rajesh Sawhney. The company recently filed a bid for constructing three studios at Film City (Dadasaheb Phalke Chitra Nagri), Goregaon.
It is said that Bhushan Gagrani, Managing Director of Film City Corp, had confirmed the reports and had added that Adlabs was one of the nine bidders, who participated in the qualification bid for the Rs. 30 crore project.
The corporation had started the project of building of three studios in the 90s, but had to abandon the plans, owing to financial crisis. To keep up with the pace of the growing film and television industry, the corporation has decided to revive its abandoned project on a build – operate – own – transfer basis. The bidder who offers to transfer the assets in the shortest period will be offered the contract. But Adlabs spokesman refused to comment, saying that discussions are still in the initial stages.
