Mumbai: With an aim to train students as per industry standards, Whistling Woods International Limited (WWIL) encourages its students to work on Apple systems.
Each student in WWIL, irrespective of their course is encouraged to have a personal Mac laptop. In addition to this, the animation and editing faculty also train their students strictly on Apple hardware and software in the institute’s studios. So, each animation and editing student uses a dedicated Mac machine to work on animation films and edit live action films with software such as Final Cut Pro, Toon Boom, Shake etc. The end result is that, some of the animation films dished out by WWIL students can give many industry animators a run for their buck.
Giving a tour around the institute’s animation studio and rendering room, WWIL head animation department Gokul K said, "At Whistling Woods we use Apple hardware and software to train students as per industry standards and give them an experience of working in a professional environment. We use Apple products for working, storage and even rendering, which is something that very few studios offer in India, so leave alone other institutes."
WWIL is also used as an R&D faculty by a few technology firms to test software before its launch in the market. "This gives our students a firsthand experience of using pre-launched software, which will be launched in the market when they graduate," adds Gokul.
A student from final year of animation batch said, "When we go to work for internship at various animation studios and interact with professionals, we have an ease in understanding the work and technicalities because of the way we are being trained in Whistling Woods."
WWIL even has editing suites with Apple hardware and FCP software, just like any professional post production company. Head editing department Umesh Gupta said, "Using Apple products allow us to give comprehensive approach to training our students in various creative aspects of post production and not just limit them to the technicalities of editing. It makes work unimaginably flexible."
To further support the students, the Bombay distributors of Apple even offer special rates and discounts for students purchasing Mac laptops at WWIL.
