MUMBAI: India has made its presence felt at the Golden Globe Awards that were held in Los Angeles. Music composer AR Rahman, who recently won the Critics Choice Award for Best Composer for Slumdog Millionaire, has won yet again at the Gloden Globes.
Slumdog Millionaire bagged all four awards that the movie was nominated in comprising Best Motion Picture in the drama category, Best Screenplay (Simon Beaufoy), and Best Director (Danny Boyle).
Needless to say that the 66th Golden Globe has proved to be a great function for the film that won all the awards to was nominated for. While the entire cast and crew was present at the award ceremony including Anil Kapoor and Rahman; Shah Rukh Khan along with wife Gauri Khan and director Karan Johar were also present at the event. Khan was invited to present an award at the prestigious award ceremony.
Shah Rukh Khan was on-stage with Slumdog Millionaire actress Freida Pinto. The two presented a clip from the movie on stage. Tom Cruise presented the award for Slumdog Millionaire for Best Motion Picture (Drama).
Cameron Diaz and Mark Wahlberg presented Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) to Kate Winslet for her work in Revolutionary Road!
Waltz with Bashir, which deals with the horrors of the 1982 Israel-Lebanon War, was awarded the Best Foreign Language Film. The award was given away by Colin Farrell.
Commenting on the Golden Globe Awards, UK Film Council CEO John Woodward said, "British films and talent have dominated this year’s Golden Globe awards, marking an outstanding start to 2009 and we congratulate all the award-winners on their success. Slumdog Millionaire’s full house and the awards for In Bruges and blockbuster The Dark Knight are a testament to the range of films that the UK can produce. The Globes have also put the spotlight on female British acting talent with Kate Winslet’s achievements and Sally Hawkins’s award for Happy-Go-Lucky, supported by our Premiere Fund, following her New York Film Critics’ Circle award last week."
Starring Dev Patel, Irrfan Khan, Anil Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla and Freida Pinto, Slumdog Millionaire is all set to release in India on 23 January.
