Bhatts’ Awarapan to release in Pakistan

MUMBAI: The latest film from the Bhatts’ Vishesh Films banner Awarapan, has been cleared by the Pakistan Federal Film Censor Board in Lahore and is scheduled for a theatrical release there.

The Federal Film Censor Board of Pakistan had seen Mahesh Bhatt’s Awarapan on 27 June to consider it for a release in the country. The film is being readied for release in Pakistan on either 6 or 13 July, 2007.

Awarapan stars Emraan Hashmi, Shriya Saran and Mrinalini Sharma. After Mughal-e-Azam, Soni Mahiwal and Akbar Khan’s Taj Mahal, Awarapan will be the fourth Indian movie and the first mainstream Hindi movie in more than four decades to see a theatrical release in Pakistan. Indian films have been officially banned in Pakistan since the 1965 war between the two countries.

Incidentally, Awarapan was the first film from the Bhatt camp to have a wide overseas release last week. The film was distributed overseas by Studio 18.
