Nishabd, Nehlle Pe Dehlla fail to create ripples

MUMBAI: It’s been two months now into 2007; however the lull at the box office continues. None of the releases until now have been able to strike it big at the turnstiles.

Ram Gopal Varma’s Nishabd and Mahendra Dhariwal’s much delayed Nehlle Pe Dehlla could not create any ripples. Even having an Amitabh or a Sanjay Dutt or Saif Ali Khan does not guarantee an opening at the box-office.

Nishabd fails to hold the protagonist’s tragedy with the audience. The film is too matured for masses and will appeal to a select audience at multiplexes only.

BSE has released the film in Bombay circuit with 112 prints including 13 UFOs, ofur DLPs and four E-City digital prints. The film opened much below expectation.

Speaking to Businessofcinema.com Gaity Galaxy owner Manoj Desai said, “The initial collections of Nishabd have been good. The film opened to 90 per cent collections on Friday and had reached to 100 per cent collection on Saturday. Nehlle Pe Dellha, on the other hand has gathered only 25 per cent collections.”

New Empire, which has a seating capacity of 983 persons opened with daily three shows (matinee, second and third shows) of Nishabd and collected Rs. 18,520.90 against the capacity of Rs. 1,44,798.

Maratha Mandir, except for matinees opened with daily 3 shows. It has a seating capacity of 1,107 persons and a full show registers Rs. 33,919.10. On the opening day, the film collected 43.02 per cent by collecting Rs. 43,780 against the capacity of Rs. 1,01,757.30.

Regal Cinema which seats 1,178 persons, except for matinees opened in regular 3 shows. It has a capacity of collecting Rs. 65, 812.55 per full house show. On the first day it collected Rs. 43,879 against the total capacity of Rs. 1,97,437.65 (22.22 per cent).
