MUMBAI: Cinemax will launch its 12th multiplex facility in Guwahati, Assam, on 11 May 2007. The company has also tied up with a mall developer for a new three-screen multiplex in Navi Mumbai, with a capacity of over 900 seats.
A first of its kind establishment in the north eastern state, Cinemax Dona Planet will open up to movie goers with Anurag Basu’s Life in a… Metro.
Cinemax Dona Planet will be a two-screen multiplex with a seating capacity of 462. It will also host regional movies to suit the preferences of all its patrons. Each screen has 19 recliner seats.
Cinemax plans to expand its operations on a pan India basis across 42 locations in 11 states, by the end of FY 2009E. In Mumbai, the multiplex major operates 23 screens spread over 1,20,000 square feet area. With the commencement of operations at Guwahati, Cinemax will have seating capacity of more than 10,000, with 38 screens spread over 12 locations.
“The Guwahati property is the first theatre of its kind in the state of Assam, and the first new theatre in Guwahati after more than two decades. The two-screen multiplex will open with movies like Spider-Man 3 and Good Boy Bad Boy,” said Cinemax India Limited chairman Rasesh B. Kanakia.
Cinemax expects to commence commercial operation of the upcoming multiplex in Navi Mumbai by the end of 2007.
