MUMBAI :The box office is finally showing signs of revival with many big banner releases this month after the spate of comedies and high voltage drama’s failing to cause a murmur. This Friday, there is Ram Gopal Varma’s horror flick Darna Zaroori Hai and Mahesh Bhatt’s crime thriller Gangster all set to collide.
While Varma’s, Darna Zaroori Hai boasts a big star cast, it has an uphill task as horror has not been a favorite genre for Indian audiences. Varma hopes his sequel to Darna Maana Hai will do the trick with a joint effort from 7 different directors each directing 7 different stories, all interwoven into one thread.
Mahesh Bhatt’s Gangster, directed by Anurag Basu starring Emraan Hashmi has already generated the curiosity quotient as the story is supposed to be based on gangster Abu Salem’s infamous affair with actress Monica Bedi. The film will also star Shiney Ahujua and introduces Kangana Rawat who plays Monika Bedi’s part in the film. While the race is on it’s up to the Indian audiences to finally pass the verdict, crime thriller or horror.
