Daddy Cool film producers to sue rumour mongers

MUMBAI: Rumor mills were abuzz that Maruti Pictures’ upcoming film Daddy Cool is a copy of the 2007 Hollywood film Death At A Funeral  but that is not true as Maruti Pictures’ Ashok Thakeria and Indra Kumar officially clarified the reports. Moreover, they are now getting ready to sue the people who have been responsible for spreading these rumors.
Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Thakeria said, "Yes we are planning to sue those people who have been spreading these rumors. Our lawyers are already working on it. We have spent a lot of money to buy the official rights from the makers and the producers of the Hollywood film Death At A Funeral. We want to sue the people spreading the rumors because they have tainted our reputation and name inspite of us paying so much money to buy the rights. We have not only bought the rights for the film but also for our title track Daddy Cool, which is a 1976 track by Boney M. What I mean to say is that whatever we do, we do it officially."
However, Thakeria was not ready to disclose the names of the offenders.
Even though both the films are similar, a new character has been added in Daddy Cool. The character played by Sophie Choudry is not there in the original film. Speaking about her character Choudry says, "The character I play is probably the only difference between Daddy Cool and Death At A Funeral. My character has been added to give a little bit of masala to the film."
Daddy Cool stars Prem Chopra, Suniel Shetty, Aftab Shivdasani, Javed Jaffrey, Chunky Pandey, Rajpal Yadav, Aarti Chhabria, Ashish Chowdhry, Tulip Joshi, Kim Sharma and Sophie Choudry and has been directed by K Murli Mohan Rao. The film is slated to release on 28 August,2009.
