Farhan Akhtar’s Rock On takes a flying opening

Mumbai: This week saw four Bollywood movies releasing – Rock On, C Kkompany, Chamku and Mukhbir and two Hollywood movies – Wall E and Wanted. Of the lot, Rock On has taken a flying start with a good opening and the move is said to be carrying equally good reports.

From Friday evening onwards until Sunday night, multiplexes are expecting Rock On to go houseful at all metro cities, especially Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Kolkatta. The film has a strong youth essence and is largely a multiplex film. Rock On even bagged more shows than the other releases this week. However, since C Kkompany is a comic film it will stand a good chance over this weekend.

Fun Cinemas AVP programming Bhumika Tewari said, "Theater owners are in a fix this week as there are total of six releases. The audience will get a variety of films to choose from. Out of the eight films Rock On has opened at 35 – 40 per cent, CKKompany and Chamku at 15 per cent and Mukhbir at 10 per cent. We expect Chamku and CKKompnay to pick up over this weekend."

At a property of Fame in Mumbai, Rock On’s occupancy was 50 per cent for the 7.30 am show on Friday with 150 tickets sold out even for the early morning show, and for the afternoon show the occupancy went to 90 per cent. What’s more, the movie is expected to be houseful from evening onwards. Cinemax has been running houseful shows of Rock On since morning at three properties in Mumbai.

PVR programming head Prakhar Joshi pointed out, "We had expected Rock On to do well in metro cities, but this morning we heard it is running houseful even in Bhopal and Indore. The movie has taken an opening of 70 per cent to 100 per cent across our prime properties and we expect it to run houseful over the weekend."

From the previous week’s releases, God Tussi Great Ho is out of theaters. On the other hand, Singh Is Kinng and Bachna Ae Haseeno still have one – two shows running and so are Phoonk and Mumbai Meri Jaan.
