Filmy launches stock exchange for stars

MUMBAI: Sahara One Media and Entertainment Ltd’s Hindi movie channel Filmy has launched the Filmy Stock Exchange (FSE), which is India’s first virtual exchange. FSE is a Bollywood gaming destination where celebrities stock will be traded just as in a commodities market.

Actor Arshad Warsi, who has been roped in as the brand ambassador for FSE, struck the gong at a mini stock exchange created to formally launch this unique Filmy property in Mumbai.

Filmy Stock Exchange is a stock market with a difference. The principles of FSE mirror the principles of the stock market. The stock price of the celebrities is thus affected by their current standing and growth prospects. Viewers get a never-before power to ‘buy and sell their favourite film stars.’ It also gives the players an opportunity to win prizes for themselves and “stock” of their favorite celebrities.

Sahara One Media And Entertainment Limited CEO Shantonu Aditya said, “In today’s media scenario, interactivity and convergence are key to a brand’s growth. After the successful launch of FILMY earlier this year, FSE is a cutting-edge initiative to take the channel’s brand proposition of forward.”

Arshad Warsi, fresh from accolades on his performance in Lage Raho Munnabhai, said, “The idea of Filmy Stock Exchange is fascinating. The younger audience is going to connect with it very well because for them, there can’t be a more engaging way of learning the workings of a stock exchange. It’s simple and fun to play, and there are prizes to be won as well. The moment Filmy pitched me the concept, I decided I had to be a part of it.”

FSE is a unique concept targeted at people in the age group of 15-30 years, in the top 10 Hindi-speaking metros. To trade, a user can register by sending an SMS – FSE – 9090 or by logging on MSN India, which is the official web partner for Filmy Stock Exchange.

Being a trader on FSE will give viewers an opportunity to use their Filmy Rupees to invest in the stock of the stars you’d want to own. To start off with, the user will be given 1000 Filmy Rupees (FRs) to create their own portfolio. Anything over and above 1500 FRs can be redeemed for prizes varying from laptops to washing machines to music systems.

FSE will have 30 of the best and biggest Bollywood stars listed at any point of time. For any new star to be enlisted, one of the existing 30 will be de-listed. The stars scripts will be evaluated on basis of – the trading of their stocks, box office performance of their current releases, upcoming releases, new movies signed or other market relevant information.

Filmy business head Ashutosh added, “FSE is not only an engaging property for our viewers, it’s also an extremely good brand for our advertisers to associate with. The span of FSE is across various media – television, mobile, Internet, radio, print and more. It is a multi-media property in the true sense of the term.”
