Friday’s four small film releases fail to enthuse box office

Mumbai: This Friday saw the release of Dil Kabaddi, Maharathi, Oh My God, Meerabai Not Out and Transporter 3. While no one was expecting any sort of fireworks at the box office, the movies have faired far below expectations.

In fact, last week’s release Oye Lucky Lucky Oye has also picked up and faired well over this weekend.

Out of the entire lot of this Friday’s releases, Transporter 3’s English and Hindi dubbed version has faired well all across the country. In cities like Latur, Aurangabad, Indore, Nagpur, Raipur etc the film’s dubbed version got a good response.

Dil Kabaddi’s performance at the box office was the best in the lot of Hindi movie releases. The movie opened low on Friday but picked up on the weekend with an occupancy ranging from 30 – 40 percent in cinemas.

Maharathi’s weekend performance came second to Dil Kabaddi, followed by Oh My God. Meerabai Not Out was a complete wash out at the box office. In some shows the film had only 1 or 2 audience, with an occupancy as low as 0.5 percent. Some prime time shows of the movie even had to be cancelled.

All eyes are on 12 December’s release Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, which will make a smashing entry into theatres and take up at least 80 percent of the shows in multiplexes.
