Hathway to offer gaming on digital cable

MUMBAI: The Rajan Raheja Group Company, Hathway Cable and Datacom Pvt. Ltd. will start offering interactive gaming on the Digital Cable platform.

Hathway has partnered with UK based NDS Group Plc., which is a majority owned subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation Group, to bring in this and many more such technological innovations in the cable TV business.

As part of the introductory package, the bouquet of 10 fun-filled games is available free of cost to more than 100,000 subscribers across seven locations: Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Jalandhar and Chennai. Digital services with gaming will be launched in Mysore by the end of this month and in Nashik by the end of this year.

Hathway Cable and Datacom Pvt. Ltd. managing director and CEO K. Jayaraman said, “We have always been on the forefront of cable TV business and regularly introduced various innovative services. We have seen how cable TV has transformed our lives. And, games is another exciting feature to add interactivity and improve functionality of your TV sets. We would soon bring in many more such technological advancements right to your homes through our cable service.”

The games range from strategy and tactic to adventure, memory, fun and mind twisters besides the traditional card game and classic jig saw puzzle. The games can transport the players from desert sands to tranquil ponds to springtime in psychedelic swamps. One of the games involves using a map to plot your path through the multi-screen levels around the house to collecting missing socks.

In keeping with gaming being a family affair, Hathway has also introduced one-player and two-player games. In one-player mode the player must compete with the television, whereas in two-player mode two players go head-to-head, passing the remote control between turns.
