Mumbai: Tips Films is ready with their maiden Punjabi venture Dil Apna Punjabi. It is produced by Kumar S Taurani & Ramesh S Taurani, written & directed by Manmohan Singh. The film is ready to release on 1 September. The film is set in the lively village of modern day Punjab, where a joint family spanning over four generations lives under one roof. Picturised in scenic locales of Kullu Manali, Chandigarh , Punjab and London this film boasts of a budget of 50 million. This is something that has never been seen in Punjabi cinema.
Kumar Taurani of Tips Films says, “We are primarily a Hindi label, and after having made as many as 20 Hindi films, the enthusiasm, contacts and platform influenced us to make this film on that scale. So that is why we at Tips were prompted to package this film in a big way and we have also used some great songs in the film.”
Kumar further informs, “I want to release this film all over India especially where the Punjabi audience is concentrated. I am also expecting the film to do good business overseas. I am tryin my best to change the face of Punjabi cinema.”
The story of Dil Apna Punjabi is about a family which is united by values, tradition and warmth is headed by Sardar Hardam Singh (Dara Singh). His grandson, Kanwal (Harbhajan Mann) is a man of his heart, who idles most of his time with a group of friend and is part of a village musical troupe. Love strikes Kanwal when he meets Ladi (Neeru Bajwa) at a common relative, Faujan’s (Amar Noorie) place, the only one to know about their budding romance, and who in turn makes their love match seem as an arranged proposal to their respective families. However, when their families meet, they are discouraged due to Kanwal’s in-ambitious approach. Love and dignity forces Kanwal to seek his identity, and destiny takes him to U.K., where in his life comes Lisa (Mahek Chahel), a U.K. youth icon. Lisa is drawn towards Kanwal’s charm and simplicity, and notices a spark in him and an exciting journey to stardom begin, where after Lisa nurtures feelings for Kanwal.
Does Kanwal choose Lisa and lead a life of fame and fortune in U.K.? Or does he returns back to Ladi and his roots in Punjab forms crux of the film!
Prior to this, Gurdaas Mann and Juhi Chawla starrer Des Hoya Pardes was also made on a grand scale. So is the film going to be compared to in any aspects? “I just bought an original DVD of the film few days back and saw it. The film is undoubtedly good. But I’d just like to say that mine is a more happy film”, he concludes with a smirk on his face.
