MUMBAI :It’s a case of dual identities. One is Karan Johar’s magnum opus Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and the second is Biswaroop Roy Chaudhary’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. The trouble began when two different producers registered the same movie title with two different authorities. In practice all titles are registered with the trademark authorities, however, there is also a practice of getting movies registered with the film authorities Indian Motion Picture Association (IMPA).
While Johar has registered this title with IMPA, Biswaroop Roy Chaudhary has registered the same title under the Trade Mark Act of 1999. Johar’s movie was said to be have released sometime in August this year, but Chaudhary insists that he will not allow the use of this title to Johar as the disputed title suits his movie more.
Chaudhary also argued that Johar is a big producer and with a galaxy of stars like Amitabh Bachchan , Shah Rukh Khan , Abhishek Bachchan , Rani Mukherjee , Preity Zinta , and Arjun Rampal among his cast, so he can afford to change his title and still fare better. Who will finally say Alvida to the title…only time will tell? The movie fraternity and even government authorities are keeping a constant watch on the case.
