MUMBAI: Karan Johar believes in giving a chance to debut directors. The maverick director’s production company Dharma Productions has signed Puneet Malhotra as its sixth debutant director.

Malhotra will direct a movie titled I Hate Luv Storys, which stars Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor. Malhotra has earlier worked with Johar as an assistant director.

Prior to this, the production house had Nikhil Advani debuting as director with Kal Ho Na Ho, which was followed by Tarun Mansukhani directing his first film Dostana under the banner. Some of the other debutant directors, who will open their slate with Dharma Productions in 2009 – 2010 are Rensil D’Silva, Aayan Mukherji and Siddharth Malhotra.

While D’Silva is directing Kurbaan starring Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi, Mukherji’s directorial debut is Wake Up Sid, which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma.

On the other hand, Siddharth Malhotra is slated to direct the Stepmom remake that will have Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal in the lead.
