Kiran Shantaram to revive film banner

MUMBAI: The ex-sheriff of Mumbai, Kiran Shantaram and the son of legendary filmmaker V. Shantaram is gearing up to revive his father’s banner. The last film made was Jhanjhar in 1986.


Kiran Shantaram says, “I want to keep my promise to my father of keeping his banner alive. More than 20 years have passed and now I feel the time is right to go in for production. I am going through few scripts and have almost finalized one. I will begin with one film at a time. The announcements will be made in a couple of months.”


Rajaram Vankudre Shantaram popularly known as V. Shantaram passed away on 19 October 2004 at the age of 84. Very few may be aware of the fact that V. Shantaram started off as a camera attendant. The prolific filmmaker rose to greater heights as an actor, producer and director. His films like Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani (1946), Jhanak Jhanak Paayal Baaje (1955), Do Ankhen Barah Haath (1957), Navrang (1959), Geet Gaya Patharonne (1964), Pinjra (1972) are still being remembered for his master craftsmanship.
