MUMBAI: New filmmaker George Mathews, and the son of well-known South distributor popularly known as Mathews in the industry, forays into his first production with a patriotic subject. The film is titled as The Flag.
George Mathews who is into shipping business says, “The Flag is a patriotic film and revolves around the Independence movement. It is a period film set around the time of 1942. We are shooting on the same location in Bhuj where Aamir Khan’s Lagaan was shot. But the subject is nowhere to it nor do we have the game of cricket as the backdrop. There are six songs too. We have completed 85 per cent shooting on the sets erected at the expanse of the location and will be shooting further from June 20 onwards.”
He further adds, “I wanted to release the film on August 15 which marks the 60th year of Independence and the 150th year since the Sepoy mutiny (in 1857 – the first war for Independence). But I doubt that the film will be completed by that time. We have major blasting and action scenes remaining to be filmed.”
About the team he informs, “My film is directed by Sanjeev Balan from Moscow. He has won few awards for his short films at many international film festivals. Manoj Rajdutt who was associated with Prakash Jha during the making of Gangajal is the associate director. Sanjay Masoom who penned dialogue of Krrish has written the dialogue. Art by Anand Shinde, cinematography is by Hari Nayar and music is by Lalit Sen.”
