MAMI Film Fest gets underway with Katyn, Lovesongs

MUMBAI: Polish director Andrzej Wajda’s film Katyn, which made its debut in India at the annual 10th Mami International Film Festival, will open at Imax Adlabs on 6 March.

Additionally, Jayabroto Chatterjee’s Lovesongs, starring Jaya Bachchan and Om Puri, will also premier at MAMI. The film will premier on 8 March, coinciding with International Women’s Day.

Katyn has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year (Poland) at the Oscars this year will hold a special place at the opening gala night.

Katyn was premiered at the recently concluded 58th Berlin Film Festival. Produced with the most advanced technologies this film boasts of being the only film not only in Poland but the entire Europe to be shot on 4K technology. This technology enables four times higher resolution in post production than commonly used 2K process.

On the other hand, Lovesongs is an English film, an evocative story of how ordinary lives suddenly change because of extraordinary circumstances. It’s a touching story with the controlled anguish of a loveless creature haunted by her past, unreconciled to her lonely present and apprehensive of an uncertain future.

The music has been given by legendary Jazz Diva Usha Uthup and it complements the entire theme of the movie. Three of the English songs hark back to the jazz that was popular on Calcutta’s Park Street in the 70s.

The film will be screened at MAMI venues at Cinemax Versova on Saturday 8 March at 11 am and at Imax Wadala on 12 March at 11 am.
