Peepli [Live] wins award at Durban International Film Festival


    MUMBAI: Aamir Khan Productions’ forthcoming movie Peepli [Live], which has been directed by debutant Anusha Rizvi, has won its first award.

    Rizvi was awarded the Best First Feature at the Durban International Film Festival for Peepli [Live].

    The movie is scheduled to release in India on 13 August and will be released by UTV Motion Pictures.

    The International Jury of the Durban International Film Festival said, "Peepli [Live] is an ambitious and well-realized film that deals with serious political issues in a witty and entertaining manner. It creates an enchanting world of colourful characters, images and music that engrosses viewers throughout."

    Producer Aamir Khan is leaving no stones unturned to promote the movie to all and sundry. He has been touring cities across the globe like Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey, Dubai and Australia to promote the movie. Peepli [Live] was recently screened for the students at USC in LA.

    The movie stars artists like Naseruddin Shah, Raghuveer Yadav, Omkar Das Manikpuri, Malaika Shenoy, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shalini Vatsa, Farrukh Jaffer, Vishal O Sharma, Aamir Bashir, Sitaram Panchal and Yugal Kishore.

    Peepli [Live] is a hilarious comedy about the media frenzy, political hypocrisy and general mayhem that come about when a poor farmer undertakes to commit suicide in order to save the family farm.
