Mumbai: Percept Picture Company (PPC) showcased the first look of Nandita Das’s directorial debut film Firaaq in a stylish ambience where visuals of the film were mounted on large canvas.
Present at the occasion were Percept joint managing director Shailendra Singh, Nandita Das and her family Jatin Das, Varsha Das and Siddharth Das. Also present were the cast of the film – Nasseruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Raghubir Yadav, Sanjay Suri, Tisca Chopra, Shahana Goswami, Mohd. Samad.
Firaaq is an Urdu word that means both separation and quest. This is an ensemble film that takes place over a 24-hour period; a month after a horrific communal carnage. The film traces the emotional journeys of ‘ordinary people’.
Singh said, "We are delighted with our association with an extremely talented actor and now a director, Nandita Das. Nandita is an intellectual individual and we are sure she has definitely hit the bulls eye. When a talented and critically acclaimed actor like her decides to direct a movie, expect nothing but the best. We at Percept Picture Company are looking forward to the release of Firaaq."
Das added, "The journey from the time I first began thinking about the film has been long and challenging. Coincidentally, the first print of Firaaq came out the same day as the formal announcement. I am grateful to all those who kept their faith in me and hope to live up to it."
The film is slated to release in October.
