Punjabi film for Academy Awards

MUMBAI: A Punjabi film, Waris Shah – Ishq Daa Waaris has entered the 79th Academy Awards for 2006. The official entry was entered by India Waves TV (San Francisco) on behalf of US distributor of the film, Golden Palms Entertainment Inc. Produced by Manjeet Mann, the film stars Gurdas Mann, Juhi Chawla, Divya Dutta. It is directed by late Manoj Punj.


 


India Waves Television Network founder and president Lakshmi Baweja states, “Waris Shah was entered in general category from the US. The film is a tribute to director Manoj Punj who died of cardiac arrest a week after the film’s grand premier celebrations in Santa Clara, California.”


 


Baweja also added that Waris Shah would compete in many categories including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Costumes.


 


Golden Palms Entertainment president Jagroop Khosla says, “It is history for Punjabi cinema.”


 


India Waves TV will collaborate with Golden Palms Entertainment in promoting the film to make it highly visible.
