MUMBAI: Rahul Bose’s The Foundation that works to prevent discrimination of any kind is all set to run the Mumbai Marathon. Personalities like Aparna Sen, Amitav Ghosh, Konkona Sen Sharma, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar and Teesta Setalvad have joined hands with The Foundation to spread the message of non-discrimination.
The Foundation has enabled six children selected from over 100 schools of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the Andaman Nicobar Scholarship Initiative (ANSI) to run the marathon. They are currently studying at the Rishi Valley School as part of the ANSI education programme to create a platform of equal opportunities coming from neglected areas.
Renowned author Amitav Ghosh says, “I am delighted to take part in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (SCMM) for The Foundation to support the cause of non-discrimination.” Never before in the history of the Mumbai Marathon have so many celebrities come together under the umbrella of one organization. Joining them will be 15 representatives from the Leeds Metropolitan University , London, as part of the initiatives of their multiracial non-discrimination centre.
Bose feels, “With the children from the Andamans well settled in Rishi Valley and the SCMM around the corner we feel this is an ideal occasion to celebrate ANSI with well wishers like Aparna Sen, Amitav Ghosh, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Konkona Sen Sharma, Teesta Setalvad who have never shirked from their commitment to a world where everybody has equal rights.”
Says main organizer of the marathon Procam International managing director Anil Singh, “I am delighted that Rahul Bose and The Foundation are a part of the Mumbai Marathon again this year and are using the marathon as a platform to continue their efforts to fight discrimination. I support them whole heartedly.”
