Rare collection of films on music exponents inaugurated at IFFI

MUMBAI: A rare collection of films on music exponents  was inaugurated at IFFI, Goa. 39 films on classical film music and its exponents are being screened in the special section, Moments with The Maestros.

 

The event was inaugurated today by Chief Minister of Goa, Digambar Kamat at Black Box in Kala Academy in the presence of actor Nagarjuna and his wife Amla. A cross section of music personalities, film makers and artists including santoor maestro Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, music director Anandji , music composer Ravi and veteran actor Biswajit were present on the occasion along with Raghu Menon secretary (I&B), Government of India, Sanjay Srivastava chief secretary, Goa , IFFI director S. M. Khan and Nirmala Devi, wife of late music director Pt. Husan Lal, who was felicitated on the occasion. 

Films mostly of biographical nature on doyens of Hindustani, Carnatic and film music have been included in this section of IFFI, 2009. During this week long presentation films on music celebrities like Saint Thyagaraja, Ustad Allaudin Khan, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Ravi Shankar, Pt Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Malikarjun Mansur, Bal Murali Krishna, Ahmad Jaan Thirakawa, Ustad Alla Rakha, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Gangubai Hangal, Begum Akhtar, Pandit Ramnarayan, Husanlal Bhagatram, Anil Biswas, K L Saigal, Naushad, Mohd Rafi, Manna De, Salil Chowdhury, Mubarak Begam etc will be screened from 24 to 30 November, 2009. 

The inaugural film, Rafi – We Remember You, directed by Kuldeep Sinha was screened on 24 November. The programme has been organized by the Films Division in collaboration with the Directorate of Film Festivals.
