Reliance to cash in on integrated biz model

MUMBAI: Anil Ambani’s Reliance ADAG has its finger on the pulse of the filmed entertainment business in India. The company has been scouting for directors, producers and actors alike, so much so that it reportedly also sent blank cheques to certain filmmakers to get them onboard their new production house – BIG Motion Pictures.

The company now boasts of having every form of delivery platform to exploit its content to the fullest be it theatres, mobiles, internet or broadband.

Reliance Entertainment chairman Amit Khanna says, “Anil Ambani is passionate about media and entertainment business. Going forward Reliance ADAG will be fully integrated. We will be present across all platforms of delivery from mobile screen to 70 mm screen. We are the largest multiplex chain and have the largest FM radio station. Adlabs distribution and BIG Music and Home Entertainment has been launched, more digital activities like Bigadda.com, Zapak.com and Bigflicks.com are also well underway.”

However, old industry hands allege that corporates are spoiling the market by throwing money and moreover they lack proper knowledge of the movie business. To this Khanna retorts, “Our people have spent years in this business and understand that any product is as good as its content. We will be teaming up the creative with business to make entertainment global.”

Recently, Reliance Entertainment has launched various divisions under the BIG brand name including BIG Music and Home Entertainment, Bigadda.com and Bigflicks.com. The company already operates its radio stations under the brand name BIG FM. However, the official launch of Big Motion Pictures is one that is eagerly still awaited for it here that original content will be created that can further be exploited via the company’s other subsidiaries.
