MUMBAI: Producer Subhash R Duragkkar is remaking his 1986 hit film Ankush. The movie will be called Elaan – Today’s Youth Power and will be directed by Milind Swami.
Ankush was an offbeat film, which told the story of an educated unemployed group of young men living in the same neighbourhood. The film, made on a shoe string budget, fetched good returns at the box-office.
Confirms Duragkkar, “The new film will be similar to Ankush, which was produced 21 years ago. It will have a new look though, in keeping with today’s times and standards. I have titled the film, Elaan – Today’s Youth Power. It will be directed by Milind Swami, who has assisted Umesh Mehra in films like Khiladiyon Ke Khiladi in 1996 and International Khiladi in 1999, both of which starred Akshay Kumar.”
In Mumbai, Ankur fetched approximately around Rs 4 million (Rs 40 lakhs). It was co-produced and directed by N Chandra and starred Nana Patekar, Rabia Amin, Raja Bundela, Arjun Chakraborty, Madan Jain and others.
Elaan – Today’s Youth Power is slated to launch on 18 May, 2007 and is likely to feature leading actors, unlike the original, which starred newcomers.
