MUMBAI :One of India ‘s talent powerhouses Shabana Azmi who has done films across borders, ventures global yet again with her film Bangla Town Banquet, in which she plays a London- based Bangladeshi woman who interacts with flora and phantoms.
Written by Tanika Gupta who wrote the play Waiting Room,in which Shabana performed at the National Theatre in London and directed by Hettie Macdonald. Azmi plays a Bangladeshi woman called Sufiya who lives in East London with two sons. Priya Kalidas who was in Bombay Dreams plays her daughter.
Azmi grows pumpkin in her balcony and even screams at her plants when she is in a bad mood. But she musters courage to walk out of the marriage.
