Model-turned actor Shayan Munshi (Jhankar Beats), a key witness in the sensational Jessica Lall murder case, was arrested on Saturday at the Kolkata airport on his way to Bangkok but was granted bail later in the day by a district court which directed him not to leave the country.
The actor was reportedly on his way to Bangkok with his father. After the Jessica Lall’s retrail began, Munshi had been barred from leaving the country without taking prior permission from the police. He was arrested based on this notice. Munshi will be produced before a local court today. Official sources said Shayan was first intercepted by the immigration officials at the international terminal and was later handed over to the Airport police.
Mumshi had originally filed the FIR on Jessica murder case but later retracted his statement that implicated prime accused Manu Sharma. After his turnaround, other witnesses turned hostile and the Jessica Lall case fell flat. All accused, including Manu Sharma, were acquitted by a Delhi court earlier this year, before the case was recently reopened.
