Shiamak judges Mumbai school kids for Disney

MUMBAI: ‘My School Rocks’, an inter-school dance competition inspired by Disney Channels Original movie- High School Musical 2 is being held at the St. Andrew Auditorium, Mumbai. The performances will be reviewed by celebrity chorographer, Shiamak Davar.


 


Performances will be pitted against schools from seven other cities including Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Kolkata. Shiamak will choose the eight finalists representing each of these cities. The vignettes of these finalists’ performances would be aired on Disney Channel for viewers to vote for their favorite performance.


 


The winning school team, chosen on the basis of an audience poll and Shiamak’s points will get the opportunity to star in a music video to be choreographed by Shiamak on one of the songs from ‘ High School Musical 2, and air on Disney Channel.


 


Walt Disney Television International (India), Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Antoine Villeneuve said, “‘My School Rocks’ offers kids a unique nationwide opportunity to express themselves and celebrate teamwork. With the second edition of ‘My School Rocks’, we are eager to seeing ‘High School Musical 2’ fans demonstrate their passion for dance and music.”


 


Shiamak said, “I am more than thrilled to be part of ‘My School Rocks’ as it brings two of my biggest passions together – dance and music. I am convinced that I will learn as much as I will contribute in the next few months interacting and working with kids from all over the country. I am extremely excited and looking forward to meeting and dancing with a lot of kids!”


 


This year, the competition has expanded to eight cities reaching out to over six lakh kids. Auditions are being held in November and are expected to attract more than 1000 schools across the country. In addition, Shiamak Davar’s Institute for the Performing Arts will support and inspire the budding talent.

‘High School Musical’ has become a sensation among kids and families since its debut last year. Its sequel ‘High School Musical 2’ has already generated rave reviews and  captured the imagination of over 69 million viewers worldwide since its U.S. premiere in August. In the US, the soundtrack rewrote chart history once again with its spectacular debut at No. 1 in the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart.


 


In India, Times Music recently released the ‘High School Musical 2’ soundtrack providing tweens and families in India the opportunity to experience songs from the sequel, each re-recorded in Hindi with Indian instruments. The highlight for India is that the soundtrack includes three inspired songs in Hindi created by leading music trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and remixed tracks by DJ Suketu.


 

‘High School Musical 2’ is set to premiere across India on Disney Channel in early December this year.
