MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Releasing of India, which missed out on releasing Angels & Demons in Indian multiplexes due to disagreement over revenue sharing terms, has now reached an understanding with the chains.
The movie was released in a few PVR Cinemas properties today (8 June) and from tomorrow onwards chains like Cinemax India, Fame Cinemas, Inox Leisure and Fun Cinemas will also start playing the movie.
Confirming the development to Businessofcinema.com, Sony Pictures Releasing of India managing director Kercy Daruwala says, "While I won’t be able to share the terms with you, it is true that we have reached an understanding with the multiplexes and they will now screen the movie in their properties."
The movie was released across single screens and independent multiplex chains in India with 133 prints. With the release in multiplexes, Sony will now be adding 12 more prints of the movie and also re-direct some prints from single screens to multiplexes.
As was reported by Businessofcinema.com earlier, Hollywood studios are not allowed to take part in a strike as they are bound by the US anti-trust law. However, most studios (except Paramount Films of India) had nevertheless held on to the release of their English films here in a show of solidarity towards the producers and distributors.
