MUMBAI: Ultra has released a Marathi film Kairee – The Raw Mango on DVDs and VCDs. Directed by Amol Palekar it is based on a short story by writer G. A. Kulkarni and stars Shilpa Navalkar, Yogita Deshmukh, Leena Bhagat, Vasant Aabaji, Nimish Kathale, Akshay Pendse, Atul Kulkarni with Mohan Gokhale and Sonali Kulkarni is a special appearance. Bhaskar Chandavarkar has provided the music.

Palekar says, “Kairee is the story of a 10 year old girl, who is brought to her maternal aunt Taani’s house due to the loss of her parents. Uprooted from a refined loving home and placed in an unknown world, she struggles to cope with hostilities at her new home as well as surroundings. Taani-mausi who is childless with a brute husband tries single handedly faces the adversities and attempts to give her a secure and full life…something which Taani herself has been denied as a woman. Together they face the unpleasantness and vulgarity of the man-made-adult-world, drawing courage and happiness from nature.”

Ultra MD Sushil Agrawal adds, “The home-viewing segment is growing and we want ourselves to have a voluptuous film library. These short films are made on a lesser budget on DVD/VCD format with different interesting stories.”

The DVDs and VCDs are priced at Rs 299 and Rs 149 respectively.
