UTV to launch Vinod Mehra’s daughter

MUMBAI: It’s the turn of another star daughter to make her debut in Bollywood.

Sonia Mehra, daughter of the late actor Vinod Mehra, will make her first appearance in a film to be produced by UTV. The movie will be directed by a top director, and will star a leading hero opposite Sonia. The film will go the floors in February 2007.

Neither Sonia nor the producers were available for comment, but a UTV source confirmed that the film is ready to roll next month.

Vinod Mehra, who made his debut in Hindi films in 1970 and went on to work in many films, worked with leading actors of the day, including Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjeev Kumar. Some of his films include Amar Prem, Swarg Narak, Khuddaar, Anurodh, Bemisaal, Sabse Bada Rupaiya and Ghar. Mehra turned director with Gurudev, but passed away before the completion of the film at the age of 45, in 1990. The film was released in 1993 after director Raj Sippy completed the remaining shooting.
