MUMBAI: Whether Shoojit Sircar wants it or not, major production houses in Mumbai are super-keen on a sequel to this season’s sleeper hit Vicky Donor. The film on sperm donation caught on and went on to make substantial profits for its co-producers Eros International and John Abraham. Immediately the clamour for an encore(read: sequel) began immediately.
Says a source, “Eros naturally wanted Shoojit to start a sequel right away. But he saw nothing natural about it. Before Shoojit could even begin to crystallize an idea for a sequel, Viacom 18 approached him with an even more lucrative offer. Shoojit has not even thought of a script. But now he is being compelled to do some quick re-thinking.”
The buzz in the trade is, Shoojit may first plunge into the Vicky Donor and then move to his next big project Jaffna. Shoojit who’s currently spending time with his wife and two daughters in Kolkata admits there’s pressure to deliver a sequel to Vicky Donor. However he discounts the possibility of abandoning Jaffna. “I am at the moment working on another draft of Jaffna. I will go ahead with this project first. As for the sequel to Vicky Donor, yes there are lots of offers, including the ones mentioned by you. But until I crack an idea I am not going for it.”
There is also news of Tamil-Telugu actor Siddharth re-making Vicky Donor. Shoojit completely refutes the possibility of any such project.
