Zee Studio wins Gold at Promax Asia Awards for ‘Get Shorty’ promo

Mumbai: Zee Studio bagged a Gold award in the category of Best Special Event Promo at the recently held Promax Asia Awards in Singapore. Zee Studio also picked up Promax Asia Awards in 2005 and 2006 for the best movie campaign and the best movie promos.

The Promax Asia Gold has come Zee Studio’s way this year for its on-air promotional campaign of its short film contest Get Shorty. In August this year, Zee Studio launched Get Shorty inviting five-minute films from budding filmmakers across the country. The call-for-entries promo featured a helpless and harried, fat young man painfully lugging a TV and a disc player across the city streets in the hope of finding someone to show his film to. The classic Everyone’s Making it Big but Me by Dr. Hook plays on in the background and heightens the drama as the frustrated youth faces one refusal after another to watch his film. The core message to the aspiring film-makers was, "You don’t need to be a ‘somebody’ for us to show your film. If you have a film that deserves an audience, we will give you just that." The promo was an instant hit and drew in 500 plus entries from across the country.

The contest is in its final stages now with 12 of the best films being showcased every Friday night at 10 PM, starting 21 November. Zee Studio will showcase three short films in each of the four half-hour episodes interspersed with their reviews and discussions by eminent film personalities such as Luke Kenny, Anurag Kashyap and Samir Karnik. Zee Studio will arrive at the winner from amongst the 12 films of the finalé on the basis of popular voting and the winning film will be sent to the prestigious Berlin and Cannes film festivals.

The Promax Asia Gold for the promotional campaign of Get Shorty speaks volumes about the creative sensibilities of the team at Zee Studio and its knack of coming up with original ideas and consistently delivering high-impact campaigns.
