MUMBAI: TinselVision, a broadband Internet, video-on-demand (VoD) service targeting South Asian communities in the US, UK and Canada, and Zee TV USA, the international division of Zee Telefilms have inked a content and distribution alliance to deliver Zee content globally via Tinsel’s web video service.
Through the terms of this agreement, TinselVision obtains rights to distribute, via its platform, thousands of hours of archival and new production content ranging from Bollywood movie titles to contemporary Indian soaps, reality television and game shows.
This marks the first announcement in a series of similar agreements as TinselVision prepares to launch the world’s largest premium, on-demand content library for television, film, sports and lifestyle entertainment programming. Title releases from TV’s forthcoming service will begin during the Summer of this year.
“Zee is excited to be in the web VoD space and partner with TinselVision as we look to expand our audiences along new media channels and formats and drive altogether new, additive revenue streams,” said Zee Americas operations head S Venkatasubramanian.
TinselVision chairman and CEO Chase Weir added, “As TinselVision continues to build the world’s largest South Asian, on-demand content offering for the web, we are pleased and honored to sign Zee TV as a key content licensor. We are very encouraged by their decision to invest in our vision and welcome them among our trusted partners.”
EchoStar Satellite Corporation former SVP of sales and distribution and senior advisor to TinselVision’s CEO Amir Ahmed said, “TinselVision and Zee TV meet at the crossroads of an enormous market opportunity in the on-demand segment of the South Asian entertainment niche. This is more than a new channel or platform meeting existing content and customers. This is a very large and new addressable revenue stream that will be seized by a small number of players over the next couple of years. With partners like Zee TV, TinselVision is poised to be among them.”
TinselVision is scheduled to launch its niche service in this year delivering Bollywood and South Asian movies, TV series and sporting events via the Internet to PCs, laptops, TVs and mobile devices to the South Asian community in the US, UK and Canada.
The service aims to provide over eight million customers with choice, affordability, control and convenience through on-demand access to South Asian content while offering new sources of revenue to content copyright owners.
