MUMBAI: “Rahul, naam toh suna hi hoga.” – That is the line Shah Rukh Khan uses in his latest film ‘Chennai Express’. But much before he became known as Rahul, through ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ and most importantly ‘Chennai Express’, he was famous as Raj in ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Mohabbatein’ and most significantly ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’.
‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ was the film that made Shah Rukh Khan a household name. Therefore, it is heartening for fans to see shades of ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ in ‘Chennai Express’. In many ways, it is a full circle. There’s the picking up the girl on the train, as well as the multiple references to so many of Shah Rukh Khan’s earlier films.
‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ cemented Shah Rukh Khan’s Raj as a chocolate-boy romantic hero. ‘Chennai Express’ showed that the carefree yet responsible man-child Rahul is no less-loved. The end of a journey, the beginning of a new one!
