COLOMBO: Anurag Kashyap’s next film ‘Bombay Velvet’ has lined up actors like Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar for a film set in the Mumbai of the sixties. But for the look and feel of the film, they aren’t shooting in Mumbai.

The film is being shot in real surroundings and on sets in Sri Lanka. To be specific, the team is shooting in Colombo. Recently, photos of the shoot at York Street, Fort in Colombo came out.

Buildings that look right out of South Mumbai appear in these photos. At the same time, the production design has gone to great extents to recreate taxis and cars. A Premier Padmini car dressed as a newly polished taxi with the old BBY (Bombay) number-plate and another old-timey car have been spotted.

At the same time, a green-cloth is seen. Looks like a lot of the retro effects will be added in via VFX during post-production. None of the leading stars were seen on the sets though.

‘Bombay Velvet’ is looking for a Christmas release in 2014. The movie is based on historian Gyan Prakash’s ‘Mumbai Fables’.
