The trailer for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Ram Leela’ came out last week and made a huge impact. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s chemistry were the talking point of that trailer. Now for the first song, it is Ranveer Singh who makes an appearance alone.
After the high of the trailer, it is possible to feel that the first song ‘Tattad Tattad (Ramji Ki Chaal)’ is a little lukewarm. Of course, Ranveer Singh is hot, and for those just used to normally seeing the heroines show off their skin, this is a refreshing change.
The sets and costumes are colourful, as is expected from Bhansali. Ranveer Singh makes a grand entry too: lying on a bike as it maneuvers itself among an astonished crowd. This is a Romeo (or Ram) who is confident about his masculinity.
The lyrics too talk about people having to come to terms with Ram’s immaculate personality, body and charm, which Ranveer Singh portrays effortlessly. Written by the film’s writers Siddharth-Garima, it is put to music by Sanjay Leela Bhansali himself. The director has his stamp all over as he has choreographed the song too. Interestingly, the song is sung by Aditya Narayan, who sounds very much like his father Udit Narayan.
Now if only the signature dance step of the song was slightly different. It seems more as if Ranveer Singh and the people around him are showing off their smooth and silky hair rather than performing a dance step worthy of a catchy chorus that ‘Tattad Tattad’ possesses.
‘Ram Leela’ releases on 15 November, 2013.
