Lagaan was the first film under AKP banner. The 2001 film went on to be India’s official nomination for the Oscars in that year. The epic sports drama based on the British era not only received critical acclamation but is also one of the most successful films in Bollywood. The story of Lagaan is synonymous to patriotism, as the film essays the fight of villagers against the British rulers on tax payment which was settled by a cricket match.
