AIB Controversy: Aamir Khan’s Reply To All The Arguments That Were Raised Against Him

    Aamir-Khan-Pk

Aamir Khan rubbed off some people pretty bad after he reacted on the AIB Roast issue. Aamir called the show ‘violent’ and ‘shameful’, to which people argued that Aamir was being hypocrite as he himself had produced an adult film, Delhi Belly.

But in a recent interview with a daily, Aamir explained his reaction on the matter. Aamir revealed that his reaction was more emotional than moralistic, as the roast targeted a beautiful, young girl he loves dearly.  “I’m aware that if you sign up for the Roast, you sign up to insult each other.

But, in this case, even those who hadn’t sign up, were being targeted, like Farida Jalal, Reema Lagoo and a beautiful, young girl I love dearly. The young girl whom I’ve known since she was a kid, was the butt of racist and sexist jokes. She did not even know that a live audience was watching this and couldn’t protect herself. That is unfair! This is what I meant when I described the show as “violent”. Films which depict violence are fictional but this young girl is real. So my reaction was more emotional than moralistic,” Aamir Khan said.

The actor went further on and commented over all the argument relating his Delhi Belly film. The actor said he has no moral issues with the use of expletives in content that is solely meant for adults. “As I said, I have no moral issues with the use of expletives in content meant for adults. When we made Delhi Belly we were making a film which was meant for an adult certification. In P.K. I play an alien and they don’t wear clothes on his planet. For me, there’s no vulgarity in nudity. That is how we are born into this world,” Aamir concluded.

When Bollywood Was The Inspiration For South Films

    Featured-Dlhi-Belly

CLICK NEXT TO SEE THE SOUTH FILMS WHICH WERE INSPIRED BY BOLLYWOOD FILMS

Bollywood reserves the right to copy from anywhere and everywhere. These days things are pretty legalised. So where to look for inspiration? Down South. So we made it a point to look down South for copy worthy content. But then something happened and people in South started looking towards west for inspirations. So here are the Bollywood inspired South movies

    Dabangg

Our Pandeyji was not only a hit here but also pleased people down South so much so that Telugu superstar Pawan Kalyan worked in the remake of the film which earned heavily. Now he will be directing the sequel to this film.

    3 Idiots

Rajkumar Hirani‘s ode to friendship also found many takers. It was remade in Tamil as Nanban and earned well at the box office.

    Aashiqui 2

Sachiin Joshi bought the rights of the film from the Bhatt’s and remade the love story of a drunk erstwhile singing sensation and a budding talent in Tamil to good response.

    Band Bajaa Baraat

YRF should be patted for making this regional move. Rather than selling the rights of the film to a South Indian producer, they decided to make it in Telugu called Aha Kalyanam with Vaani Kapoor and Nani. The film made decent money.

    Kahaani

Vidya Balan‘s search for her missing husband reached South in the form of Anamika. Nayanthara played the lead in the film.

    Delhi Belly

Imran Khan‘s adult comedy also surprisingly found many takers in the South in the form of Settai. It was an exact copy of the Hindi film.

    Jab We Met

Kanden Kadhalai was the Tamil remake of Imtiaz Ali‘s Jab We Met. Tamannah and Bharath played the lead roles. The film again earned pretty heavily.

    Munnabhai MBBS

Yet another gem by Rajkumar Hirani find its way down south in the form of Vasool Raja MBBS. Kamal Haasan reprised Sanjay Dutt’s character from the original.

  • Bollywood’s Most Famous Jewel Thieves

    Bollywood’s Most Famous Jewel Thieves

    Featured-Jewel-theif

CLICK NEXT TO SEE A LIST OF FILMS THAT HAS JEWEL THIEVES:

Thieving in Bollywood is getting bigger with every passing year. You are either a solo stealer or have a band to support you in your steal. Happy New Year too is a story of how six losers come together to steal jewels worth millions. We have noticed the thieves in Bollywood generally go for jewels only. So here is a list of films that had jewel thieves stealing the show.

    Jewel Thief
Dev Anand played a clueless stranger who is mistaken as a notorious jewel thief in Chetan Anand’s heist film Jewel Thief. They even unearth his love interest played by Vyajanthimala who try to convince him he is the Jewel Thief. But the truth is something else.

    Sacha Jhootha
No wonder this was a blockbuster film because it has two Rajesh Khannas. In the 70s, nobody was as big as him. But rather than the theft, it is the motionless drug that stole the show here. HNY definitely took a leaf out of this film.

    The Burning Train
Dharmendra, Jeetendra, Vinod Khanna, Hema Malini, Asrani, Parveen Babi, Danny Dengzongpa, Simi Garewal, Vinod Mehra, Ranjeet, Neetu Singh, Kushboo. A train from Delhi to Mumbai is carrying  a smuggler (Ranjeet) fleeing with stolen diamonds. When the train catches fire, he tries to escape to another train, but falls off.

    Half Ticket
Kishore Kumar plays an undaunted young guy who doesn’t know what the package that he is carrying holds. Pran has slipped diamonds in it and Kishore in unaware about it.

    Delhi Belly
In a bid to make some quick bucks and settle their problems forever, three guys try to sell the diamonds they find in a package from a doctor’s office. But things go wrong a goon threaten them with dire consequences, if they don’t retrieve it.

    Shalimar
The film that inspired Farah Khan to get her own version is perhaps the only convincing theft film in Indian cinema. A ruby is kept safe behind a bulletproof glass, protected by a minefield around. But Zeenat Aman and Dharmendra both have their eyes locked on the jewel.

    Shaan
Although this movie is about revenge, we cannot ignore the perfect thieving party Parveen Babi hosts for Bindu to steal diamond necklace. But there are others who have their eyes fixed on it too, like Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Bindiya Goswami.

    Heera Panna
True, the only thing people remember from this film is Zeenat Aman looking great. That’s truly very distracting for men but if you may have noticed something, the plot was about a necklace steal. Dev Anand stole the necklace and Zeenat Aman wants to steal it from him.

    Special Chabbis
Akshay Kumar plays a mastermind who puts together fake interview sessions so that he can lay his hands at some of the most expensive jewels from a jewellery store. Perfectly planned, it is one of the most devious ploys and a real one at that.

    Happy New Year
Shah Rukh Khan, leads a gang of ‘losers’ in a diamond heist in Dubai in the disguise of entering a dance competition. Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan,Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah co-star.

  • Review: Shaadi Ke Side Effects – Sequel Ke Side Effects

Review: Shaadi Ke Side Effects – Sequel Ke Side Effects

Shaadi Cover PicSid (Farhan Akhtar) and Trisha (Vidya Balan) are married, and they know how to keep the magic alive. It’s all roses and sexy lingerie until the unplanned pregnancy and the resultant change in life, lifestyle and romance. Conversations about travel and food are replaced by discussions about baby food and bowel movements.

Trisha gives up her job to be a full-time mom, heaping the financial onus on musician Sid who harbours half-hearted dreams of one day “cutting an album”. Fed up of being passed over for the baby, selfish Sid takes advice from his seemingly (but far from) perfect brother-in-law (Ram Kapoor) and creates an alternate world for himself – one where he can be carefree and revel in his premature midlife crisis. Edging him along is his part-time roomie Manav, played by Vir Das in a space that’s Delhi Belly meets Go Goa Gone.

The writers (Saket Chaudhary, Zeenat Lakhani, Arshad Sayed) offer a one-sided perspective – a chauvinistic one. Trisha goes from being the cool chick to becoming the nagging wife and obsessive mother.

Even preferring to trust a smarmy neighbour (Purab Kohli, who I was sure would show up with a jar of coffee at some point!) and slightly off-balance nanny (Ila Arun), who’s more Peyton Flanders (The Hand That Rocks the Cradle) than Marry Poppins! Sid’s own disconnect and disinterest in his family is, disappointingly, glossed over.

The pre-interval sitcom rings true for many married people – the humour is drawn from situations we might find familiar and some of the scenes are truly hilarious. Farhan Akhtar’s comic timing is impeccable.

Indeed Balan and Akhtar are the soul of Shaadi Ke Side Effects – at ease, believable and immensely relatable.

I have not had this much fun in a Hindi Movie for a long time. But then comes the second half ka side effect, the over-writing ka full effect.

Director Saket Chaudhary’s Shaadi Ke Side Effects, goes skidding off the rails, because what should have been a glib and breezy hundred minute romcom runs aground with side plots and unnecessary drama. Because, fact is, Trisha and Sid don’t really have any real issues. And then come the confessions and climax, which make you wince.

As a sequels go, Shaadi Ke Side Effects is far more enjoyable than its predecessor, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, in large measure due to the two exceptional lead actors and Sayed’s snappy (though not necessarily witty) dialogues.

Shaadi Ke Side Effects is worth a watch simply for the fun you will have till interval, for Balan’s natural performance and for Akhtar’s charm, skill and ability to make even the cheesiest dialogue droll.

    Rating: **1/2

  • Five Reasons To Watch The Anil Kapoor-Starrer ’24’

Five Reasons To Watch The Anil Kapoor-Starrer ’24’

    24 04102013

Bollywood actors like Anil Kapoor, Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher will finally be coming to your television screens. But this time, not as judges on contests or on reality shows, but on a proper televised fictional show.

The show in question is ’24’ and its first episode will be screened tonight. As the title indicates, it is the Indian version of the internationally renowned show ’24’ which is a thriller that takes place in real-time.

A newer type of television content from what Indian audiences are used to on Indian television; if you haven’t yet made up your mind about the show, let BusinessOfCinema give you a few reasons to watch it.

Anil Kapoor: He’s made a pretty huge name for himself, hasn’t he? From ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ to appearing in the original ’24’, it is all due to him that India is getting a TV show like this. Anil Kapoor is surely going to be all over the show, and his presence will sure get people talking.

The Support Cast: Mandira Bedi has been a regular presence on television, but here she’ll be portraying the role that Nina Myers has in the original. Her new look impressed everyone at the show’s launch. Let’s hope her character in the show impresses everyone too. There’s also Tisca Chopra, always stellar is whatever little she takes up.

The Guest Appearances: So far Shabana Azmi and Anupam Kher are known to have small roles in the series. But Anil Kapoor has enough star power to get a lot more Bollywood friends on the show. And we’re sure he has!

The Crew: Abhinay Deo has a black comedy hit in ‘Delhi Belly’ under his belt, so we’re hoping he can make the switch to political thriller fairly well. The writing is by Rensil D’silva (‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Kurbaan’) and by Bhavani Iyer (‘Black’, ‘Lootera’) so we hope these minds can maintain the pace and weight of the show.

The Ambition: A season consisting of 24 episodes of an hour each, set in real-time. We know America can do it, but in India this TV show can open up many avenues ahead. People are used to soap operas, but if ’24’ is good and succeeds with the audience too, then things could change a lot on Indian television in the years to come.

    24 LAUNCH 20092013

MUMBAI: So far Bollywood stars have shown themselves on TV as part of reality shows or as judges or special guests for competition-based shows. But now Anil Kapoor and gang are rewriting the rules with the new TV series ’24’, an Indian version of the famous series, worldwide.

At the launch for the show ’24’, Anil Kapoor brought along with him several other Bollywood stars in Tisca Chopra, Anupam Kher, Shabana Azmi and Mandira Bedi.

The primary star cast came dressed according to their characters in the show, especially Anil Kapoor and Mandira Bedi, who impressed everyone with their energy and charisma.

That’s not all! It is being written by Rensil D’silva (‘Rang De Basanti’) and Bhavani Iyer (‘Lootera’), with dialogues by Milap Zaveri (‘Grand Masti’) and directed by Abhinay Deo (‘Delhi Belly’). The buzz is that Rensil D’silva has directed a few episodes. He has directed ‘Kurbaan’ and ‘Ungli’ before.

The entire cast and crew came on stage at the launch of the show. Perhaps a larger ensemble has not been seen on the entire stage at an event for a TV show before. They sure are treating it like a movie.

’24’ will premiere on 4 October, 2013 and will run for a 12-week period on Friday and Saturday nights. Let’s hope this ushers a reinvention for TV content.

  • ‘Delhi Belly’ Writer Akshat Verma To Direct Film In Mumbai

‘Delhi Belly’ Writer Akshat Verma To Direct Film In Mumbai

MUMBAI: When ‘Delhi Belly’ came out two years ago, it was hailed for its bold content and down-to-earth language. It is known to everyone that the writer Akshat Verma wanted to in fact direct it too. But under Aamir Khan’s supervision, Abhinay Deo ended up directing the Imran Khan-starrer and Akshat Verma had to wait.

    AKSHATVERMA19072013

Finally, Akshat Verma is now getting a chance at directing his first feature film. The film will be in the mould of the first film, with but set in Mumbai instead of Delhi. The film will also have slices of black comedy.

The yet-untitled film is being produced by Disney UTV.

Akshat Verma confirms that Mumbai will be his destination this time around, but insists that the film he’s writing is very different from Delhi Belly. “It’s too early to give out any details as I have to work and rework on the writing,” he said.

Whatever it is that Akshat Verma ends up making, we’ll keep our eyes open for it. ‘Delhi Belly’ was a hugely entertaining film, so we have great hopes from Akshat Verma.

  • Imran Khan In The Big League With ‘OUATIM 2’

Imran Khan In The Big League With ‘OUATIM 2’

MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Imran Khan reportedly charged a whopping Rs 11 crore for his upcoming gangster flick ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2’ (OUATIM 2).

A source close to the actor said, “Imran’s career has seen steady growth thanks to his fan following. His next big release is Milan Luthria’s OUATIM 2 that also stars Akshay Kumar. Imran is paired opposite Sonakshi Sinha in the film. The figure he is believed to be earning is Rs. 11 crore.” However, Imran’s spokesperson did not wish to comment on this news.

Imran Khan will be seen sharing screen space with Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Sonali Bendre in the film, which is directed by Milan Luthria. ‘Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai 2’ is a sequel to the 2010 hit film ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai’.

The in demand actor is currently busy shooting for Punit Malhotra’s ‘Gori Tere Pyar Mein’ with the gorgeous Kareena Kapoor, reliving the ‘Ek Mein Aur Ekk Tu’ magic. He also will be seen opposite Priyanka Chopra in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s ‘Milan Talkies’.

  • Has ‘Himmatwala’ Lowered Disney’s Brand Equity In India?

Recent films produced by Disney UTV like ‘Himmatwala’ and ‘Race 2’ have received a lot of flak, by audiences and critics alike, for being crass, vulgar and extremely negligent to the main star of the film – the script. This makes one wonder whether it is time for the behemoth studio to rethink it’s direction in India.

Walt Disney, the famed International family entertainment company has been active in making super hit children’s films since the early 1900’s. Also involved in parks and resorts, studio entertainment, consumer products and interactive media, Disney is a Dow 30 company.

In early 2011, talks began for a tie-up between Disney and UTV Motion Pictures, an Indian production house in business since the late 1990’s.

In 2012, the Walt Disney Co. acquired the media firm UTV for an estimated $454 million.

However, since then it seems, the hits churned out have completely lacked the vision and spirit of Hollywood’s previous, much-loved Disney films like ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Bambi’, ‘The Lion King’, ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Lady and The Tramp’ and many others.

Disney UTV sure did make a half-hearted attempt in 2009, by producing and distributing the animated film ‘Roadside Romeo’ (which featured voice-overs by Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor), but the box office failure of that film perhaps made the studio change gears and venture into what we can now safely term as the ‘poor-on-content’, child-unfriendly films that they’ve been churning out for a few years now.

The hits being churned out of Disney UTV’s stables have been diametrically opposite to what Disney had set out to do in India.

Sample this: MD, Walt Disney Company in India, Mahesh Samrat had said in 2011, when the acquisition was being finalised: “Together with UTV, our goal is to produce films that have a direct connection with the dynamic and expanding India audience and that embody Disney brand values – optimistic, fun, meaningful and emotional entertainment for the entire family.”

However, they have since failed to live up to the promise of providing “fun, meaningful and wholesome entertainment for the entire family” with films like ‘Race 2’ (currently has a PIL against it for “nudity, vulgarity”) and ‘Himmatwala’ (the less said of this film, the better). The list goes on with more mindless comedies like ‘Rowdy Rathore’, ‘Joker’ and ‘Tees Maar Khan’.

Some films from the production house that have been appreciated widely for their scripts have been: ‘Delhi Belly’, ‘Udaan’, ‘I Hate Luv Storys’, ‘Raajneeti’, ‘Life in a Metro’, ‘Kaminey’ and ‘Guzaarish’. However, many of these are in association with other productions house and most importantly, none qualify for checking in the ‘kid-friendly’ box at all!

Their upcoming films include ‘Chennai Express’, ‘Ghanchakkar’ and ‘Satyagraha’: again, one wouldn’t dare to expect these from a banner such as Walt Disney.

Recently, chairman, Walt Disney International, Andy Bird was in India as part of the FICCI Frames held in Mumbai, where he spoke about the reasons why Walt Disney acquired UTV, and their vision for the future.

“When we made the decision to buy UTV, we did it with two considerations in mind – the first was to create a diverse company in India and as importantly to acquire the talents of Ronnie Screwvala to run the new company. With the acquisition of UTV and the creation of the new Walt Disney Company India, Disney became India’s leading film studio and TV producer. We also added six of the country’s most popular entertainment, and film channels to our portfolio, so we’re now one of India’s leading broadcasters as well, reaching more than 100 million viewers every week across the country,” said Bird.

Note how there’s no mention of the original values of creating and headlining family films that they’d set out to incorporate into the merged company, when they began operations in 2012?

  • TRAILER: ‘Go Goa Gone’ Is Bloody Hilarious!

TRAILER: ‘Go Goa Gone’ Is Bloody Hilarious!

MUMBAI: Eros International and Illuminati Films have released the trailer of “India’s first ever zombie film” titled ‘Go Goa Gone’.

Directed by the duo of Raj Nidimoru – Krishna D.K. and produced by Saif Ali Khan, Sunil Lulla and Dinesh Vijan… we have to admit – the trailer is “bloody” hilarious!

This “zom-com” as the makers are calling it, features Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu, Vir Das and Puja Gupta.

The trailer begins with two friends, who are living a pretty screwed up life. Wishing to take an escape from their daily grind, they join a mutual friend on a trip to the sun-kissed Goa. When they arrive they encounter… Zombies!

Saif Ali Khan enters… claiming to be a Russian mafia boss who hunts down this “phirang phenomenon” called zombies. This begins the bunch’s comical adventure of survival.

Music by Sachin-Jigar with lyrics like “Khoon choos le re, mera khoon choos le” go a long way to make this Zom-Com a hit!

The dialogues are hilarious, especially the one where Saif admits to not really being a Russian. Delhi Belly’s Vir Das is another added attraction, which surely has us waiting for Go Goa Gone’s release on 10 May, 2013!
