It appears that Karan Johar’s ambitious project, Shuddhi, is finally getting back on track. From the get go, the film has been besieged by casting troubles, what with the original cast of Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor walking out of the project. But now, it seems that producer Johar is keeping the film from getting delayed any further, by approaching none other than Bollywood superstar and Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan to essay the lead role!
Karan had envisaged his Immortals of Meluha adaptation with lead pair Hrithik and Kareena in mind. However, things went awry when Hrithik suffered an injury on the sets of another film, which led him to push back the dates for this film. Then, Kareena too walked out of the project due to the unending delays.
Since then, names like Ranveer Singh, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone were doing the rounds. Deepika has since been confirmed to play the female protagonist, but now another name has been added to the potential list of male candidates. Buzz in Bollywood suggests that Aamir Khan has been approached with the script for Shuddhi.
Said a source, speaking about the latest development: “Karan is still trying to lock the lead for his film and has recently shared the script of Shuddhi with Aamir Khan, but nothing has been finalised yet. Aamir has asked Karan to give him time to go through the script.”
Now, however, the race to finalise the male lead must end soon, as Karan has already announced a December 25, 2014 date for the release of Shuddhi. The film will be directed by his protege Karan Malhotra.
