A lawyer in Mumbai has brought up a new case stating that the venue used for conducting AIB Roast was illegally granted. According to lawyer Abha Singh, the stadium is built on a leased land provided by the Maharashtra Government for sports-related events only.
In a recent action taken by the Girgaon court, the court has ordered the Tardeo police station in Mumbai to register a first information report (FIR) against the makers and participators of the controversial show AIB Knockout. Included in the list are the AIB team, actors Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt and director Karan Johar along with NSCI president Jayantilal Shah, secretary-general Ravinder Aggarwal amongst the other participators. The order was issued based on a complaint filed by social activist Santosh Daundkar. Advocate Ms. Abha Singh carried out the procedure, after which C.S. Baviskar, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Girgaon Court, issued the order. According to the lawyer the authorities who granted permission for the use of venue for such an event are also questionable stating that the municipal authorities lacked knowledge about the details of the event.
This FIR came two days after a law professor filed a petition that sought guidelines for a screen mechanism to keep a check on obscene and vulgar videos uploaded on YouTube. The AIB Roast has however filed a plea opposing the petition, stating that the show was for a private audience and for humour purposes only and that the audience had no objection with the same.
Some of the charges against AIB Roast include criminal conspiracy, speaking vulgar, obscene and pornographic words publicly before a women audience, and circulation of obscene, pornographic content on the Internet.
