Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan Pledge For Earth Hour 2013

MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn has united with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) -India to pledge his support to the Earth Hour 2013 which will be held on 23 March 2013 (Today) from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm

The event, first took place in 2007, in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million residents of the city participated by turning off all the non-essential lights. The concept is conceived by WWF and Leo Burnett. Today, Earth Hour is a world-wide event that is held towards the end of March every year. The global campaign aims at raising awareness and inspiring action on climate change. 

Earth Hour is now one of the largest global environmental movements which empowers everybody, right form individuals, business organizations to governments to express their support towards harmonising the balance between development and environmental concerns.

Supporting the cause Ajay Devgn said, “Earth Hour is a peoples’ movement and a live example of what individual action can do. It is truly inspiring to see billions of people coming together for a common purpose. A movement starts with a simple action, a small change that we all commit to in our lives can have a huge impact in curbing climate change. Earth Hour gives each one of us a chance to show our individual commitment towards the cause.”

Devgn is not the only Bollywood celebrity to participate in this Global movement Tamil Super star Kamal Hassan’s daughter Shruti Hassan was also spotted at the same event and also pledged her support for the event; Tamil actor, Jiiva, former cricketer Venkatesh Prasad, Bengali actor Parambrata and boxer Mary Kom also pledged to support Earth Hour 2013.

Amitabh Bachchan was seen encouraging his fans and followers to support Earth Hour as well, the Bollywood legend tweeted earlier today:

“T 1056 – EARTH HOUR TODAY – switch off your lights from 8:30 – 9:30 PM … save energy, save the earth!! I do it every year!”

The aim of Earth Hour 2013  is to encourage the shift to renewable energy. It appeals to individuals to adopt household products powered by renewable energy. It also requests for industrial and business organizations to adopt renewable energy solutions to run their business operations and production processes and it appeals to governments to promote policies favourable to the production and uptake of renewable energy.

We will do our bit to enlighten our world by turning off the lights today from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, will you?
