MUMBAI: Day 1 of the Lakme Fashion Week was bigger and more star studded than we could have imagined, with Chopra sisters Priyanka and Parineeti strutting their stuff, albeit for different designers.
Older sibling Priyanka walked the ramp for Bollywood’s most celebrated, favourite costume designer Manish Malhotra, in a typical chiffon sari reminiscent of the era of romantic cinema. One could almost imagine violins playing and the cold air of the Swiss alps, as Priyanka sashayed down the ramp in a dewdrop green and orange chiffon sari, replete with a very sexy grey choli blouse.
Priyanka Chopra couldn’t resist praising her friend Manish’s collection, specially designed to celebrate the Indian cinema, when she said: “This is the 100th birthday of the film industry. 100 years and not out..indeed deserves a celebration. If Indian cinema is a cake, then Manish Malhotra is like the cherry on it.”
In contrast, younger cousin Parineeti, in an attempt to stay relevant with the youth demographic, chose to walk down the ramp for up-and-coming designer Masaba Gupta. SEE PHOTOS OF PARINEETI CHOPRA
Parineeti’s ensemble was more eclectic and suited her vibrant personality: a nude pink floor-length dress, which the designer smartly teamed up with a long white blazer, almost a modern doctor’s coat, bearing a black printed silhouette of people.
