MUMBAI: Amitabh Bachchan is not only Bollywood’s reigning superstar, but perhaps even the most highly paid actors in the 60 plus age group.
Only recently, a leading daily had revealed just how rocking the Shehenshah of Bollywood is. They had listed Amitabh’s per-film remuneration. The 60-plus club of actors, led by Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor reportedly rake in big bucks for their on-screen performances. Big B, a meticulous and punctual superstar is the highest paid among the 60 plus actors, and he reportedly rakes in a cool 4.5-6 crores per film that he acts in. More so, Amitabh Bachchan still has Bollywood’s top directors and filmmakers lined up outside his door, waiting to cast the man in one of their films.
With Amitabh Bachchan managing to wow the audiences with his incredible passion and acting, even at the ripe old age of 70, we are sure the younger crop aspires to emulate their favourite superstar. For even the top heroes would someday wish to reach his stature, and be able to command such astounding figures in their later years.
The man is also an increasingly socially aware citizen in his private life as well: Time and again, Amitabh Bachchan has spoken out to redress issues faced by civic society. Big B is so well-read and aware, and is a stickler for perfect time-keeping. He is also meticulous to the point of being neurotic, of maintaining his much-loved blog. Yesterday afternoon, we caught up with the megalith of Indian Cinema at Thane, during an event organised by Thane Police to create traffic awareness.
Amitabh Bachchan rocked his black Nehru-esque bandhgala, as he greeted the assembled school children and press persons assembled at the event. Amitabh spoke at length about the need to maintain discipline and order while driving, especially on Mumbai’s perennially traffic-choked roads. The legendary actor was felicitating certain school children for their traffic awareness, and was even felicitated in return by Thane police commissioner K P Raghuvanshi for his effort in promoting this endeavour.
