Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who is all set to make her comeback with Sanjay Gupta’s Jazbaa, has been roped in for the most intense film Sarabjit Singh’s biopic, helmed by Omung Kumar. The much demanding role of playing Sarabjit Singh on screen has landed on actor Randeep Hooda’s lap, while Aishwarya will play the role of Dalbir Kaur.
According to the reports, the film is scheduled to go on floors in October 2015, and is stated to release on May 20, 2016. Reportedly, producer Sandeep Singh revealed the release date of the film. The film will be shot in Punjab for 70 days schedule with the aim to release this film in Cannes 2016 with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
After Mary Kom, the director has come up with another brave heart story that would showcase a real life struggle of an Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh, who died after a brutal attack in Pakistan jail in 2013.
Dalbir Kaur is the 61 year older sister of Sarabjit Singh, who is a late farmer who crossed over to Pakistan in 1990, and was alleged of being an Indian spy by the Pakistani government. Director Omung Kumar who likes his films to be as realistic as possible, has roped in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play the role of Dalbir Kaur in the film.
Sarabjit Singh was caught on an unmarked Indo-Pakistani border area in Pakistan, and arrested by the Pakistan Rangers near Kasur border and his supporters claimed that the arrest was a case of mistaken identity, and that he was only a poor farmer who was drunk and had strayed over the border. Singh was attacked on 26 April, 2013, in the Central Jail Lahore by other few prisoners who tortured him badly with blades, knives. Sarabjit Singh was more like a son than a brother for Dalbir Kaur, who defeated every way to get back his brother back to India, but that couldn’t happen.
We eagerly await to watch this film!
