But there also films which advocated on the ritual of arranged marriages and its success. Here are a few of them
Anil Kapoor is a city bred guy who returns to his village with a shehri girlfriend. Nobody is too enthused about her but Anil wants to marry her. After a few reluctant situations, love blossoms between the two and they lived happily ever after till she dies. Not all your parents’ choices are wrong, you see!
A NRI looks for an indian suitor for his wayward girl who is as brash as her lifestyle in US. When they land in India on the lookout for the right munda, they find pind da munda Akshay Kumar apt for her. She is married off to him against her wish and the moment they hits US, she shows her true colour. However, perseverance and persistence wins and Akshay gets her girl.
This film is perhaps the only complete presentation of arranged marriage in Indian films. There is no hint of love before marriage. In fact, it only blossoms after the engagement. Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao do a great job in playing the roles of two excited engaged younsters bound by traditions and rituals.
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
yes, it can be called a tragic love story at the start. Two boys eyeing the same maiden with she in love with one of them isn’t a story with great love affair but has a lot of tears in it. But at the end, it is the match selected by her parents that becomes her preferred choice. Salman Khan as the spurned lover, Ajay Devgn as the rejected husband and Aishwarya Rai as the woman of desire of both, Hum Dil De CHuke Sanam could easily be a film which asserts on finding love where you least expect it.
