Sanjay Dutt got addicted to drugs and because his drug addictions, he saw a major fall in his career before making a strong come back. Then in April 1993, the star was arrested and charged with involvement in the 1993 Mumbai Bombings. This caused him his career as he was not able to act for four years due his subsequent arrests and bails.
Sanjay Dutt was among several people associated with Bollywood who were accused of their involvement in 1993 Bombay Bombings. Sanjay Dutt was accused of accepting a delivery of weapons at his home in Mumbai from Abu Salem. In the issue, it was claimed that the weapons formed a part of a large consignment of arms connected to the terrorists who caused the tragic bombings in Bombay.
In April 1993, Dutt was arrested under the provisions of the TADA (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act). In October 1995, Dutt was granted bail by Supreme Court but in December the same year, he was arrested again. He was then released on bail in April 1997. In 2006, the case came to court and during 2006-2007, Sanjay Dutt spent seven months in Arthur Road Jail and Pune prison for the offences.
In July 2007, the TADA court sentenced Sanjay Dutt to six years’ rigorous imprisonment for illegal possession of weapons and cleared him of charges relating to the Mumbai Blasts. Sanjay tried for bail but the judge rejected his defence and bail. Sanjay Dutt returned back to Arthor Road jail and was soon moved to Pune’s Yerwada Central Jail.
On August 2007, Sanjay Dutt was granted interim bail by Tada court after the star appealed against the sentence. On October 2007, Sanjay Dutt was inside the jail but he again applied for bail which was granted by Supreme court in November 2007.
In March 2013, Supreme Court upheld the verdict of the TADA court and shortened Sanjay Dutt’s sentence to five years’ imprisonment.
